Your Questions, Answered
Buying precious metals the smart way starts here.
Whether you're a first-time buyer comparing gold and silver, a retirement saver weighing an IRA rollover, or a diversified investor adding platinum or palladium, these are the questions our specialists field most often — covering metal selection, purity, IRA eligibility, premiums, storage, IRS reporting, and our buy-back commitment.
How do I start buying precious metals from Priority Gold?
Most clients begin with a no-obligation call with one of our specialists at  888-506-6439 They’ll walk you through current pricing across gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, help you weigh modern bullion against pre-1933 U.S. classics, and explain whether direct purchase or a self-directed Precious Metals IRA makes more sense for your goals.
Once you’ve chosen a product, orders are confirmed by phone, paid by bank wire or check, and shipped fully insured to your address (or to an IRA depository for retirement accounts).

What's the difference between gold, silver, platinum, and palladium as investments?
Gold is the most established monetary metal — the deepest market, the longest history as a store of value, and the most universally recognized. Silver is gold’s more affordable counterpart, with meaningful industrial demand layered on top of its monetary role; it tends to be more volatile than gold.
Platinum and palladium are members of the platinum group, rarer than gold and driven heavily by industrial demand (catalytic converters, hydrogen technology, electronics). Their price dynamics often diverge from gold and silver, making them genuine portfolio diversifiers. Many of our clients hold all four.
Which products are IRA-eligible?
The IRS sets a fineness minimum for each metal in a Precious Metals IRA: .995 for gold, .999 for silver, and .9995 for platinum and palladium. American Eagles are explicitly authorized for gold and silver despite their slightly alloyed compositions. Use the IRA Eligible toggle in the filter bar to show only qualifying products.
Pre-1933 U.S. gold coins (Liberty Eagles, Saint-Gaudens) and pre-1965 90% silver U.S. classics (Morgan, Walking Liberty, Franklin, Kennedy 1964) are not IRA-eligible, but remain popular with collectors and direct-purchase investors.
Pre-1933 U.S. gold coins (Liberty Eagles, Saint-Gaudens) and pre-1965 90% silver U.S. classics (Morgan, Walking Liberty, Franklin, Kennedy 1964) are not IRA-eligible, but remain popular with collectors and direct-purchase investors.
What's the difference between bullion and numismatic coins?
Bullion coins and bars (American Eagles, Maple Leafs, Britannias, Krugerrands, LBMA bars) are priced very close to the spot price of the underlying metal plus a small premium. They are best suited for investors focused on metal content and IRA-eligible exposure.
Numismatic coins (pre-1933 U.S. gold, graded Morgan Dollars, Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles) carry an additional premium for scarcity, condition grade, and historical significance. They offer collectible upside alongside their precious-metal content but are typically not IRA-eligible.

Is there a minimum order size?
For direct purchases, there is no fixed minimum — you can buy a single 1 g gold bar or a single silver round. For a Precious Metals IRA, the practical minimum is governed by the costs of setup, custodian fees, and depository storage, so we generally recommend a minimum funding amount that makes those overhead costs reasonable. Our specialists can walk you through the math for your situation.
How are precious metals delivered and stored?
Direct purchases ship fully insured via FedEx or USPS Registered Mail with adult-signature delivery and tracking. Silver orders may ship in multiple cartons due to weight.
IRA purchases are stored at an IRS-approved depository on your behalf — typically Delaware Depository, Brink’s, or International Depository Services — in segregated or non-segregated storage based on your preference. You retain full ownership at all times.

Are precious metals purchases reportable to the IRS?
Buying precious metals from a dealer is not reportable to the IRS regardless of size. Cash payments above $10,000 are reported by the dealer on Form 8300, which is why we settle by bank wire or check.
When you sell back, certain quantities of specific products trigger a 1099-B from the dealer (for example, 25+ Krugerrands or 1 kg+ of gold bars). American Eagles and pre-1933 U.S. gold coins are not reportable on resale regardless of quantity. We recommend confirming current rules with your tax advisor; this is general information only.

Can I sell my metals back to Priority Gold?
Yes. Priority Gold maintains a published buy-back commitment for every product we sell — gold, silver, platinum, or palladium — whether held directly or inside an IRA. Pricing is based on the current spot price plus a competitive bid premium for the specific coin or bar.
